The best freelancers are those creative people who decided to live their lives in freedom, but their creativity is not enough, they need a way to “Make Ideas Happen”.
Creativity is the most important thing for every freelance since it is what clients look for, but as all good drivers know, a great sporting car like a Ferrari is nothing without control.
That’s why creativity can sometimes become your worst enemy and slow down your business.
Scott Belsky, CEO & founder of Behance , strongly believes in creative people and has committed his life to helping organize creative individuals, teams and networks because he thinks that a creative mind without organization cannot “Make Ideas Happen“.

He starts the book that we are going to review here by destroying the misconception that great ideas lead to success, having the idea is just a small part of the process, just the 1% of the journey or as he likes to quote from Thomas Edison in his website “the99percent“, “Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration”.
While reading “Make Ideas Happen”, I realized, page after page, that all creatives have something in common, ideas come and go fast and this “creative flow” is the cause of death for many potentially great ideas.
The solution that Scott suggests to avoid that good ideas get lost is organizzation, a clear and schematic way to organize each day and each project.
As you may already know, one of most known Behance’s products is “Action Method” and Scott explains how Action Method works and how much can help every creative to stay organized and find a safe place for those ideas that otherwise would get lost during the day.
Analyzing many cases of creative people that had success, Scott shows us how, together with organization, there are also two more elements that can help to turn creativity and ideas into a great products, the force of community and the capacity to lead.

It’s not easy to summarize this book in a few words, you can actually feel that Scott is writing of something he really master and he really knows how to teach it.
He knows what you feel when ideas come to your mind and you haven’t the right tools to bring them to life and create a business from them, he also knows what are your doubts and questions and simply shows you the way without forcing you in any way, just makes you realize that you have to change your workflow.
I find this book a great resource and really a must for everyone into freelancing and in general for everyone who has a creative attitude.
The book will be out in stores on the 15th of April so many thanks to Scott and Penguin Group for giving us the opportunity to review it before the launch.

I came across TheLanceLife just today, and I’m already a fan! What attracted me to the book is the title – Making Ideas Happen.
Brief story – I uploaded my work onto facebook a few months ago, and one of my friend who’s in the creatives as well left a comment saying that ‘oh I had this idea before too!’. I read the comment and felt rather uncomfortable. And so I thought… if you have an idea, why not make it happen before someone else does? That’s what made me interested in the book, I have no idea what the book is about the just the title already attracts me.
