Mockups are the easiest way to show clients how their project will look like but how can you explain functionalities in the same easy way?
Last week’s giveaway was about Balsamiq Mockups a great tool to easily create wireframes and mockups in minutes.
This week we will have a look at Napkee ( http://www.napkee.com/ ) an Air application developed by Napkee Labs.
Napkee is all about giving life to your mockups without even writing a single line of code, just click and convert your mockup into an HTML/CSS/javascript or Flex project ready to be used in production as a starting skeleton to further develop the project.
The first thing that you will notice when launching Napkee is the iphone/mac style neat, clear and simple app interface.

You can create a Napkee project and add to it your previously designed Balsamiq Mockups files.

By default it will be converted to a WEB project and you will be able to have a look at the BMML input file as well as the HTML, CSS and JS output files and have a interactive preview of the generated live mockup.

You can export all generated files and will see that the app created a skeleton with callbacks for all interactive elements of your design, to be easily filled with code.
When generating a Flex project you can go to Napkee Preferences and choose if the generated mockup conversion has to be a Flex Web or a Flex AIR application, that’s a great way to create a portable interactive mockup.
Napkee is definitely a must for every freelance working in web design and application design, having a ready to use skeleton directly derived from your mockups is an incredible speed up in everyone’s workflow.
Balsamiq Mockups already cut wireframing and mockups creation times, Napkee will cut down both expenses and times of mockups conversion and you will definitely almost get rid of every waste of time in the whole initial phase of your project since also making changes to both mockups and skeletons will be just a matter of clicks.
Your clients will get impressed of how fast you will produce good looking and interactive mockups and how the final product is already well defined and sketched at such an early stage.

In my new position (yes, I have a job now!) I’m finding more and more I have to explain technical stuff to non-technical people; their buy-in and approval is needed often before a project gets the full go-ahead, so having tools like Balsamiq and Napkee will really help me mock-up this stuff and make an effective pitch…

This is really cool utility. I’ve been pain-stakingly making paper wireframes lately for clients and it sucks.

Napkee would definitely be an asset to my freelance business as it would significantly cut down on my development time from constantly creating wireframes within Photoshop. Plus, with the added feature of converting prototypes into a fully functional webpage mockup, it will give my clients first-hand, interactive experience on what to expect from their website.
