Being a freelance also means finding a good balance between creativity and organization and we will review today a good tool that can help everyone getting organized.
The app has an all-in-one-window interface, like many other Mac applications, with a main workspace and a left sidebar, all is kept clean and simple where the word simple does not mean limited or poor in any way, it is just a synonym of easy and immediate to use, with a layout that leads the user to implement a sort of organization path in every step and form.

Tasks are the basic objects on which Things is built on and they can be organized in different categories: Today, Next, Scheduled, Someday and Projects. The first place you usually will put a task will be the Inbox where you can store them while deciding which category do fit best.
For each Task you can choose a title, add a description, apply some tags and set a due date, together with the number of days before due date when the task will appear in Today view to remember you that is about to reach its deadline.
Things also easily integrate into your workflow since you can use the contextual window to enter a new task just when the idea hits you and from wherever you are in your Mac.

One of the best use a freelance can do of Things is planing and go through the whole process of developing a project using the specific category, in which you can define a project and create and arrange tasks to be done, also giving priorities among them.
An iPhone version of Things is also available and it can syncronize with the desktop one connecting on a wireless network.

We can only address to CulturedCode the wish to have some sort of alarm, both visual and acustic, integrated into the app to signal a task that is about to expire.
Things is definitely a great tool for everyone and in particular for freelancers being not expensive and so easy to use although being a simple interface to a complex methodology that will improve your business for sure.

I work in an IT department, and my task range from projects like introducing a new Install server to the network, day-to-day administration and user support. Sometimes it’s really hard to keep track of what is to do, and when. A solution that can keep track of things on my Mac and my touch would be awesome and really helpful (more than those pesky post-it’s

I’m hoping Things would help me keep track of my workflow a bit better. I’m constantly forgetting to make minor adjustments to designs which seem to catch me unwawares later on. Not good! Tend to ‘lose it’ quite a bit when I don’t try to keep track of things, and the problem with paper is well.. it’s just as hard to keep track of! The iPhone companion sounds like it could be just up my street too.
Would love to give Things a go, to see if it will help.

I can’t remember why I need things. I know I wrote the reason down somewhere around here I just can’t remember if it was on the computer or a scrap piece of paper. If I could find that I’d know why I need things and probably discover how I’d use it to keep myself more organized.

My office is closing in September so I will be looking for a new job for the first time in 20 years. I would like to use Things to help me find a new job in an organized way. I would like Things to help me keep my interviews smooth by having the company information at my fingertips and keep track of thank you letters. This is all critically important to me and I would like Things help me do it right. Thank you.
